This is a weather and climate research project with an informational article writing component, a slideshow presentation, a mini-book activity, and a STEM challenge! Students will learn about weather and climate, what causes weather and climate, and how weather and climate changes.
This NO PREP project includes a 3 vocabulary games (Memory, Picture Books, and Go Fish!), 10 vocabulary cards with definition, a Weather and Climate Conservation Webquest (in a Google Doc format that can be shared with students via Google OR printed for students to record findings pencil-to-paper), an informational article with an outline, revision and editing checklists, informative writing rubrics for third, fourth, and fifth grade (aligned to Common Core writing and language standards), an informative slideshow extension, a weather and climate mini-book activity, writing stationary, and a Weather Vane STEM Challenge!
The Webquest portion of the project is where students will navigate various websites to learn about weather and climate. I recommend having books available for additional research, should students need them. Students can work in independently, in partners, or small groups for this project. Students will use their research to write an informational article and create an informative slideshow! Extend learning and weather and climate to life with the Wind Vane STEM Challenge. Students will use simple materials to create and test their weather vane designs.
Prep for this project is EASY! Copy student papers in a packet, prep STEM materials, and let students take their learning to new levels! Students will be engaged and excited to learn about weather and climate on Earth!
