I use these projects with my 6th grade honors classes because they offer creative and analytical options, although they can be used in any type classroom. I assign them 2 weeks prior to the due date. Once or twice during the 2-week period, students spend a few minutes with others completing the same project to compare their progress. Each option requires research with a bibliography page and includes well developed requirements. A rubric with points that add up to 100 and 4 chances of earning an additional point for exceeding requirements is included.
The six options for weathering, erosion, & deposition are:
*Deposition Landforms Prezi
*Mass Movements Public Service Announcement
*Wave Erosion Landforms Models
*Glaciers Encyclopedia Entry
The following are some possible ways to use the projects and rubric:
• Gifted students in a regular classroom can be required to choose and complete one project during the unit.
• All students could be required to complete one activity as a unit project and present their projects at the end of the unit.
• As a jigsaw activity, assign a different project to each group and have groups present so that the entire class benefits from the entire list.
• Have students grade themselves on rubric and/or pair students for peer editing using rubric before turning in.
