Students visit and complete the tasks at 7 stations. At each station there is an ctivity related to mechanical and chemical weathering.
At each station students:
•Record observations and conclusions on a lab sheet
•Determine the type of weathering (mechanical or chemical)
•Determine the specific weathering type (listed as examples under mechanical and chemical weathering description above)
•Determine the cause and effect of that weathering on rock.
This lab uses materials that are easy to come by including: steel nails, chalk, vinegar, carbonated water, sandpaper, logs, glass jars with a lid, paper towels, droppers, clear cups and water.
