This 3-4 day fun and engaging NGSS mini-unit on WEATHERING challenges students in a real world investigation to figure out how Earth’s surface has changed over time, specifically how mountains have changed shape from jagged to rounded due to weathering. Students . My students LOVE this mini-unit and they are highly engaged the entire time!
This mini-unit is aligned to the following NGSS Performance Expectations:
Simple Materials Needed (trust me, it’s worth it!): Halite sample (links provided to order), plastic sandwich bag of water, 2 pans, 2 different kinds of rocks (sandstone works best but any will do as long as one can scratch the other), something with rust on it like a nail, 1 sugar cube per student, 1 plastic container with a lid per group, 1 marker per person, scissors, glue
