A hands-on experiment when studying erosion and the weathering of seashells. In this activity, students measure the mass of a seashell before and after placing into vinegar. While the mass can be measured after 24 hrs, it can also be measured at any time afterwards so the activity is perfect for a teacher who has science two or three times a week.
This resource provides the materials, procedures and result tables for students. Custom graph paper is also included along with a directions sheet for students to make the bar graph. Directions for an extension activity are also described where seashells can be stained using vinegar.
All Earth Science resources are aligned with NGSS
