I have created 48 (12 sheets) color-coded task cards for any fiction story or novel based on Webb’s Depth of Knowledge. Many school districts now require teachers to add rigorous questioning and high-order critical thinking skills within their lessons. These task cards will give you a variety of question stems and/or task options at each of the four levels. I have numbered each set to make assigning tasks a bit easier.
There is flexibility in how you choose to use the task cards, but I have provided some suggestions for you. You can divide students into groups or assign the tasks for individual students to complete. Based on the cognitive ability of your students, you can decide what level of questioning or tasks students should complete. As a great differentiate activity, assign students certain questions or tasks based on their level of need. Students can work in groups to complete some of the higher level thinking and project-oriented tasks. Task cards can be assigned as homework, bell work, an exit ticket, or a summative assessment for a story or novel.
