This is a "Quest For Knowledge" (webquest) designed for students in their first semester of Geometry although it could be adapted to honors middle school students. The quest involves using eXcel and some specific websites to track information about a ski resort (selected by the teacher). The main part of the quest involves using a trail map of the selected ski resort and Google Earth to measure actual elevations and distances. Using this information, the Pythagorean Theorem and trigonometry, students can compare the angle of elevation (or steepness) of various ski resorts. This can be used for an entire class with each student assigned to a different ski resort in the U.S. or the world.
