Students will navigate through this webquest to explore the Klondike Gold Rush, Jack London, sled-dog racing, and selected vocabulary from The Call of the Wild novel.
After completing the assignment, students explore the history of the Klondike Gold Rush, gain an understanding of Jack London's life experiences, and analyze Buck's character based on his encounters with both men and other dogs.
Students will link to a website (created by myself) to access a series of tasks related to the Klondike Gold Rush and Jack London's, The Call of the Wild. From this website, they will follow a set of directions guiding them to videos and informational texts on the web. Students will record answers on the student handout, which also includes the link to access the webquest site. This activity can be used as a pre- or post-reading assignment. An assessment is included on the webquest if you choose to use the activity as an end-of-reading activity. If you choose to use the webquest as a research activity prior to reading the novel, you can eliminate the assessment portion, or save it until novel completion.
Note: Students will need internet access.
