Webquest in Spanish is a brief introduction to the Trujillo regimen, Parsley Massacre and ends with the Butterfly sisters. Students do the Web quest as an introduction, then view the movie "In the time of the Butterflies". Handout has ten questions. Great lesson which makes connections to Social Studies in the target language. Key is included.
To further enhance the lesson, you can have students research other Latin American dictators. They can compare and contrast using a Venn Diagram. For the upper levels, they can use the Venn diagram to write a composition. Students are always amazed at how many dictators were in control of Latin America. Makes a great connection to what they're studying in their World History class.
3.1 Making Connections: Learners build, reinforce, and expand their
knowledge of other disciplines while using the language to develop critical
thinking and to solve problems creatively.
