The attached file is a week-long lesson plan designed to go with the first grade Common Core Curriculum Map Unit "Winds of Change." In my progression, this would be week 2, however they do not have to be taught all together or in this particular order. This lesson plan is a 5 day plan along with a student packet with a cover page and four student activity pages. There is also an additional links to videos and websites if you have access you YouTube, United Streaming or Brainpopjr.com. I have included both PDF and Word versions of each document if you would like to make changes to them.
The plans include: focus standards, vocabulary, essential questions, I can statements and technology links.
The focus standards are:
RL.1.9. Compare and contrast the adventures and experiences of characters in stories
RL.1.3 Describe characters, settings, and major events in a story, using key details
RL.1.7 Use illustrations and details in a story to describe its characters, setting or events
Students will read stories by Arnold Lobel and compare and contrast the characters in the same story and across the books. Students will fill out graphic organizers such as t-charts, bubble maps and Venn Diagrams to show their thinking.
The books I used for the lesson are (these could be changed)
Frog and Toad All Year by Arnold Lobel
Owl at Home by Arnold Lobel
