This document is used in my classroom as a creative writing activity. Every Monday, my first graders write about “news” that happened during their weekend. As you can imagine, the farther into the year we get, the longer their writings become (hence the need for the page of lines only!). Typically, I start with just the first page for the beginning of the year.
This is a great warm-up activity for Mondays—and gives your students a chance to share those exciting things they’re dying to tell you after the weekend or a long break! It also gives you a few extra minutes to do whatever it is a teacher could possibly use an extra minute for .
I collect their writings and bind them into a book to give back at the end of the year. It is SO neat to see their writings improve throughout the school year.
The large space at the top is for illustrations. This packet includes 9 news pages with different labels:
-Weekend News - Labor Day News
- Fall Break News - Halloween News
-Thanksgiving Break News - Winter Break News
- New Years News - Snow Day News
- Spring Break News
Obviously all of these may not apply to your classroom.
