This notebook is intended to be a home to school connection!
Here's how I use it in my classroom:
Every Friday, your child will write a friendly letter to an adult in your family (mom, dad, grandparents). This letter should have at least one paragraph (maybe more) about what they learned or did at school that week, as well as one question. The family member should read it and respond on the response page before the following Friday.
With each adult response, the student will receive a sticker that they can proudly place on the cover of their notebook. My hope is that at the end of the year there are lots of stickers!
While I know that life gets busy and it may be hard to respond every single week, please make an effort to write a little note each week to your child. Participating in this writing activity not only strengthens mechanics, grammar, and communication skills, but also helps your child gain self-confidence in writing.
Here are a few pointers when responding:
Be specific in your answers.
Remember to write legibly.
Include praise and encouragement- they love it!
I hope you’re able to utilize this in your classroom!
