Do your students need additional practice writing at home?
Are you tired of sending home a blank notebook and reading the same sentences over and over again?
Weekend Writing Journals are the answer!
Weekend writing is my way of encouraging writing at home. In Grade One, writing skills are just beginning to emerge and it is crucial for students to practice them. Weekend writing journals are fantastic because once they are printed, students use them for the whole year - which means less prep for the teacher. Students get a new, thought provoking writing prompt each weekend – not just the familiar “write about your weekend." Another added bonus is the built in reward chart for student encouragement and teacher tracking.
★If you could invent something, what would it be?
★If you could be any superhero, who would you choose?
★How will you remember on November 11th?
★What is your favourite winter activity?
★And many more...
There are enough prompts to send the journal home every weekend for 33 weeks (October to June). Prompts are seasonally themed. Students begin writing on interlines and gradually graduate to single lines as their printing skills progress throughout the year. Editable parent letter included.
