I use this behavior log for all of my first grade students. It is an excellent way to communicate daily behavior with parents, keep a line of communication open, and encourage self-reflection. At the end of the day, I fill in each student's apple with the color they ended on. Students take their behavior log out and I walk around the classroom asking each child what color they ended on. If they ended the day on yellow or red, they must explain to me why they ended on that color and I write a quick note to their parents.
This communication log can work with a behavior clip chart or behavior cubes. In my classroom, each student starts with a red, yellow, and green cube. If they need reminders to meet expectations, I ask for their green cube. This tells them they are on yellow. Students should have the opportunity to earn cubes back throughout the day!
