Ready to challenge your second graders and get them prepared for third grade? Why wait...get started now, challenge your students and encourage more critical thinking through interactive comprehension graphic organizers.
Do you need a way to review all or most reading skills/strategies weekly? (These can be used across other grade levels.)
Would you like for your students to become so familiar with answering comprehension questions through graphic organizers, that you do not feel so stressed when those benchmarks roll around?
Here is the solution & it works! I have started using these with my reading groups, and it is amazing how much better they are at identifying the question types and locating the graphic organizer to use in answering the questions.
These weekly comprehension scavenger hunts will work with any guided reading lesson - leveled readers, series, or book of your choice.
They have been aligned specifically to correlate with the Journey's reading series and their weekly selections. Strategies and skills graphic organizers have been chosen specifically to align with comprehension questions in the weekly selection.
Some Suggested Uses:
*Use throughout the week as the teacher is guiding the instruction and asking questions.
*Teacher can supply a written copy of the questions, and have students work with a partner to find answers and corresponding graphic organizer to use in answering the questions.
*Include in Interactive Notebooks weekly.
*Can be used as homework for reinforcement of the days lesson. Ex: Teacher may chose to give the effect in the cause/effect question, and have the students hunt for the cause, etc. (You may chose to write in some hints before copying for your students.)
*As student's progress, have them work with a partner to come up with questions that could be ask to correspond with each graphic organizer.
The list of skills and strategies includes, but is not limited to cause & effect, story structure, visualizing, summarizing, drawing conclusions, sequence of events, and much, much more.
Hope that you find these an enjoyable as I do!
