This week-long, 50+ page comprehensive literacy unit will have your students engaged and excited about reading with the use of the book A Bad Case of Stripes! Included in this pack are anchor chart ideas and clip art, worksheets, before reading dialogue for an interactive read aloud, during reading questioning for an interactive read aloud, graphic organizers, a shared reading poem, a bingo game focused on the "ea" vowel team and a writing prompt. Here is an outline of the week and the skills that will be addressed through various activities.
Day 1: Build Background Knowledge and Vocabulary
Skills: schema, vocabulary, collaboration, classroom team building
Day 2: Interactive Read Aloud: A Bad Case of Stripes
Skills: theme, compare and contrast, making connections, inferring, sequencing, cause and effect, making predictions, supporting details
Day 3: Fairy Tale Themes with QR Codes
Skills: theme, listening comprehension
Day 4: Shared Reading Poem/"ea" Whole Class Bingo Game (blank bingo game is also included if you would like to add your own words and phonics skills)
Skills: rhyming, one to one correspondence, reading fluency, reading
comprehension reading with a group, reading with a buddy, reading to self,
words that contain "ea" vowel team
Day 5: Creative Writing
Skills: Coloring page-Draw what you would look like if you had a bad case of stripes. Write about how you got a case of the stripes. What do you have to do to get rid of the bad case of stripes? Also included is a plain writing page for your own prompt if desired.
