This week-long, 50+ page comprehensive literacy unit will have your students engaged and excited about reading with the use of the book Pink is For Blobfish! Included in this pack are anchor chart ideas and clip art, worksheets, before reading dialogue for interactive read alouds, during reading questioning for interactive read alouds, graphic organizers, a shared reading poem, phonics game focused on words ending in "nk", and a writing prompt. Here is an outline of the week and the skills that will be addressed through various activities.
Day 1: Build Background Knowledge and Vocabulary

Day 2: Interactive Read Aloud: Pink is For Blobfish
Skills: facts vs. opinions, author's purpose, listening comprehension, inferring, compare and contrast, main idea and supporting details, making connections, using a map in a non-fiction text, using the glossary in a non-fiction text, writing facts from the text
Day 3: Main Idea and Supporting Details
Skills: main idea and details, writing
Day 4: Shared Reading Poem/Phonics Game
Skills: rhyming, one to one correspondence, reading fluency, reading
comprehension reading with a group, reading with a buddy, reading to self,
words that end with "nk" or "ng"
Day 5: Writing
Skills: Opinion writing, Prompt: Which animal from the book is your favorite and why?
Idea for Instruction: Although there is no Valentine's Day theme, this might be a fun way to incorporate science and/or non-fiction text into your Valentine's Day curriculum because of pink theme!
