This photo challenge activity is a favorite among my high school yearbook and graphic design students. I give them access to the document in their google classrooms the first week of school; this way, they know the requirements, expectations and challenges right up front. Two rubrics are included, and I upgrade to #2 about halfway into the quarter, after they learn Photoshop editing.
This list of challenges includes 11 different themes or compositional elements. I allow students to opt out of two without penalty.
I share all the submitted photos each week, and students vote on their favorites. The winner of each challenge gets a candy bar, promotion on school social media sites and featured as our google classroom cover photo for the week!
Because I have so few cameras, most students just take these photos on their phones! I have them submit weekly in google classroom.
