This is a simple organizer that my students use weekly to help them sift through new reading material for the first time. The first time through, I model its use and make sure they fully understand each row. After that, they use this independently each time I introduce new reading material (which could be short stories, poems, informational texts, novel excerpts, etc.). I then use it to facilitate discussion as a whole class or have them meet with partners or small groups. It's a routine part of our classroom, and it also reminds them of a few simple reading strategies just in case they're struggling to get started.
