Reading Logs are formative assessments to see if students are comprehending and using the reading skills taught. Here you can find my sample reading logs for students to complete nightly for a week. Some questions are:
- What's the main idea of your story?
- What's the author's purpose? To inform, persuade, or entertain? How do you know?
- Give three examples of nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs from the text.
In addition to establishing student accountability, it also helps parents become accountable for students nightly reading. There is a designated box for each night that parents are asked to sign and at the end of the week parents can leave comments about their child's reading.
