I made these source studies to use as a starter for my social studies lesson. Each student recieved a copy on Monday and we analyzed each source daily. Students were encouraged to "mark it up" (highlight, circle, side notes, etc.). I gave students about 5 minutes to work on answering the questions independently, then we discussed as a class.
This is a GREAT way to get your students comfortable with analyzing sources related to the content they are studying. It teaches them to really dig deep when analyzing sources, rather than just glancing over it. By the end of the year, my students are able to effectively compose essays (constructed responses and extended responses) that cite evidence from sources.
