I get so behind on handing papers out if I try to do it every day, or I find myself wasting instructional time handing them out. Also, these papers never seem to find their way home for their parents to see. I finally came up with a solution to this problem. Once I have graded papers, I put them in a "To-Be-Filed" folder, and then have them sorted. With older kids I have a student assigned to sort the papers during silent reading time. With younger students, a parent could come in weekly and sort the papers. Once they are sorted, it is easy to take the papers on Friday and stick them in a folder to be sent home and checked by parents. This has been a huge time-saver, and my students' parents are grateful to have the chance to see their child's work before it hits the garbage can!
