I used this with my 8th grade homeroom students when they got back from winter break. It was a good way for students to reconnect, share about break with others, and start setting some New Year resolutions. Beyond that, they learn to write STRONG resolutions and goals. I ended up keeping all of the resolutions and checking in with them during each homeroom, coming up with strategies to meet that goal and how to overcome obstacles. They also get to learn a quick social etiquette rule (This was VERY necessary for my 8th graders. :) They had fun with it!) about how the truth sometimes hurts others, and we need to be kind with our words.
Not just for homeroom - could be used as an icebreaker in any classroom post-winter break. Could also be used if you're having difficulty with students being kind to one another in your classroom to talk about how to use words nicely with one another.
