This 3-page packet will help students with autism or other special needs to understand that it is okay to be nervous at the beginning of the school year. A one-page social story is written, followed by several questions about how the student feels.
These questions will help the teacher get to know the student, but also put the student at ease. The students will learn that it is okay to be scared, and that things may be different than last year.
Five questions follow the story to measure comprehension. Students are asked questions and given a field of three to choose from. All answers can be found in the social story.
Questions that are asked include
-How do you feel about this year
-What is your favorite class?
-How do you like to work?
-What is your favorite incentive?
All questions are asked in a child-friendly manner and have answers that students can simply circle or mark with a Bingo marker. Boardmaker symbols accompany each of the answers so students understand.
The social story is written in basic sentences for increased understanding. The story can be printed and laminated, or given to individual students.
