For small children, coming to therapy may feel confusing or intimidating. It is our job as Counselors and Therapists to try to ease those reservations and help the child feel safe and comfortable. During initial sessions, when focusing on rapport building, use this “Welcome to Therapy” flip book to help your little client learn about why they are there to see you and what your role in their life will be. Once the pages are complete, cut on the dotted lines and either staple, paste, or hole punch and tie with strings at the top of the pages to create a book the child can flip through. I would then allow the child to keep this as a way for them to build the therapeutic connection during the times in between their initial visits.
As always, the most important part of establishing a positive and trusting therapeutic relationship is showing the child that you are interested in them and what they have to say. So work with them and of course, have fun!
Also, as I am still new to selling on TpT, please follow along, leave feedback, or check back soon for more products geared toward child/elementary therapy!
Enjoy the Process,
