This is a 26 page document featuring 3 pages of captions that read: "We are BLOOMING!", "The higher you go, the more you learn!" and "Must. Keep. Moving. Up!" and 23 pages of leaves that each have one Bloom's/Webb's DOK verb from the HESS Matrix for Science and Math. This awesome resource has the verbs listed in order of rigor, with the most rigorous verbs being at the bottom of the document. I bought the tree from Teaching Stuff but you could easily make your own. I place the leaves on the tree strategically, with the lowest leaves being that DOK 1/Remember Level. As tasks become more difficult, the students will "move up" the tree with DOK 4/Evaluate being at the very top of the tree.
I created this resource as a way to show kids how they are growing and to be transparent in what I am asking them to do. Is the task very challenging? YES! At it happens to be a very towards the top of the tree... so everything is going just as planned! Research shows that when students are aware of the process of their learning, they can achieve more, so I have made this tool as a way to support them. I have also created this tool as a way for me to ensure that students are constantly taking the steps to reach the top of the tree in all the concepts we learn.
This is a really neat tool because while it looks nice in your classroom, it is also purposeful! Enjoy!
