Product Description
This Reader's Theater helps students connect with the potential reasons why West African animists converted to Christianity and Islam. Many were drawn to the wealth, power, education, and simple teachings of these religions. The Reader's Theater was designed to build passion for content, cooperation among students, and engage low-level readers in rigorous content.

Students break into groups of 4 or 5 and participate in a role-play set in a West African cities. Teachers can choose whether or not the scenes will be acted out in front of the class or simply in small groups. Each scene is followed by 1 to 2 reflection questions that highlight various reasons for conversion.

The activity is great as an introduction to possible reasons for conversion or as reinforcement of previously taught content. Happy acting!
