This is a 11 slide, highly animated, power point presentation on Famous Americans - Jesse Chisholm. Each of the slides are editable so you can modify the slides to the presentation as you need to.
In the late 19th century, the Chisholm Trail became the main route of driving cattle northward from TX to the railheads in KS. The Chisholm Trail generally went north from Austin through Waco and Fort Worth before crossing the Red River near Preston and through central OK and into KS.
Though Chisholm never drove cattle on the trail that was named for him, the TX cattlemen discovered it when looking for a way to drive their cattle northward to the railhead of the Kansas Pacific Railway, where they were shipped eastward.
By 1884, much of the old trail had been closed off by barbed wire and was open only as far as Caldwell, KS. By 1887, the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad had arrived in Texas and the long cattle drives to KS were no longer needed.
During its heyday, between 1867 and 1884, some 5 million cattle and an equal number of mustangs were moved along the trail – the greatest migration of livestock in world history.
