Product Description
Help your students understand the western migration of Virginians during the post Revolutionary War era (SOL 6c) through these notes and activities. Packet includes two different styles of notes, including one with three different versions for differentiation. Packet also addresses social studies skills, including compare/contrast historical events, identify cause/effect, draw conclusions/generalize, and analyze maps.

Map Skills Worksheet-Includes a map of VA with 7 questions about the map. This introduces the concept of moving west and south from Virginia and helps students work on reading a map. It uses a modern US map with current state delineations.

Westward Expansion Map-This map shows expansion from 1815 to 1845 with state and territory delineations from then. It also includes a link to the web source of the map for projecting a larger image for students to analyze as a class. This map does not include questions.

Westward Expansion 1815-1845 Questions-This is a smaller portion of the map from the previous page. It includes seven questions for students to answer independently.

Comparing Two Historical Events-This version of a Venn Diagram guides students to compare settlers moving to Jamestown and surrounding areas of Virginia in the early 1600s to Virginians migrating west and south in the late 1700s/early 1800s.

Comparing Two Historical Events: Pick Your Migration—>An advanced version of the previous Venn Diagram, this one requires students to pick another migration, research it, and then compare and contrast it to the Western Migration from Virginia. Ideal for advanced students who already know about another historical migration or who like to research independently.

Let’s Think! Western Migration Questions-These five short response questions make students draw conclusions and make generalizations from their knowledge of Western Migration. Perfect for an end-of-the-unit assessment or for more advanced students or early finishers.

Western Migration Quiz—>A 10 point quiz with 5 multiple choice questions, 2 fill-in-the-blank questions and a 3 point paragraph response question.

Western Migration: SOL 6c Notes-A notes page for students covering the essential knowledge of this standard. Covers the 2015 version of the standards, expanded from the 2008 version.

Causes and Effects of Western Migration-Three different format of notes in a cause/effect web format. It includes three causes of western migration and four effects. One version is completely filled in, one version is guided notes with blanks to fill in, and the final version is completely blank. Students can write in the notes, or draw pictures to illustrate the complete notes page.
