Internal Strife

Objectives:
Students will…
• Examine the Internal problems of the Western Roman Empire by traveling with a partner through eleven stations in the classroom. Each station will contain reading materials and students will answer questions for each station in their packet

• Classify information on Rome’s decline and fall into four categories; social problems, economic problems, political problems, and military problems. Students will chart these problems in their graphic organizers located in their packets

Activities:
1. Class will start with a bell ringer, written on the board. Here students will have to define what a social, political, economic, and military problem is, and give an example using America.

I will then ask students to share their answers
( 5 minutes)

2. Next, I will hand students their packets and go over the assignment and objectives for that day and the following day.
(5 minutes, Total 10 minutes)

3. Students will get with their assigned partner for the next two days, and begin to travel through stations
(40 minutes, total 50 minutes)

4. With three minutes left to go in the period, I will ask students to orally list some of the problems that they learned about when they were traveling through each station. I will write their answers on the board.

Day 2 Activities:
5. This class will begin with each students, telling me one thing that they learned from the previous day, and they cannot repeat an answer
(10 minutes)

6. Students will then get with the same partner that they had yesterday, and complete their packets/traveling through each station
(35 minutes, Total 45 minutes)

7. With ten minutes left to go in the period, we will go over their graphic organizers, and discuss the social, economic, political, and military problems faced by the Western Roman Empire.
(10 minutes, 55 minutes)
8. Finally I will pass out the homework for that night and go over what they need to do for their homework.
(3 minutes, 57 minutes)
