In this resource, students will use direct quotes from the text to visualize what each character in by Ellen Raskin looks like and then draw their visualization. This activity uses reading strategies, visualization, support from text, and characterization. There is one page for each of the 22 characters in book.
I have included two versions of the activity in this resource. One set has the text evidence already written out for each character. The other set has blank lines if you want students to find their own text evidence about what each character looks like. I have also included title pages if you want each child to complete all of them or if you want to create a class book with each student drawing one or two characters.
is a 5th grade level book, so I use it with my highest readers in my 3rd grade class. They LOVE this book! It works best for probably 4th/5th/6th grade, but even as an adult, I thoroughly enjoy this book and think that ANY GRADE would love it!
This activity works well for classroom, homeschool, virtual learning, summer reading, or distance learning!
