This activity is a great introduction to the Westward Expansion unit for Georgia Studies. It contains 6 posters, with each one full of historical images and maps to analyze and study. Posters can be placed along the classroom wall for a gallery tour, or used in stations, with students working in groups.. All photos are public domain.
2 sizes are given -a regular 8 1/2 x 11, and a 11 x 17 size. Laminating the posters allow them to be re-used year after year! This activity also comes with a 2 page handout that students complete. The handout requires students to analyze the images, answer critical thinking questions, and interpret historical maps.
There are 6 posters with these titles: Wanted - Cherokee Land, Manifest Destiny, Technology and Inventions, Pioneer Life, Georgia's Spiritual Life, Georgia's Changing Boundaries.
It is a great group activity!
