This interactive map is designed to illustrate the technologies and methods of expanding West. This aligns with NYS CC Social Studies standards 7.8a, 7.8b, 7.8c (Transportation, Technology, and Regionalism: 1790- 1840), and the differentiated assignment addresses standard 4.4c (Technology and Westward Expansion: 1790- 1840).
Here students will review an interactive map online to complete their annotated maps. The map is linked with video, text, graphs, and images to show the multiple technologies that emerged during the first half of the 19th century. Students particularly enjoyed this because they are able to work independently or collaboratively. This addresses both ELA and social studies skills.
Included: Instruction power point with examples, a direct link to the interactive map (hyperlinked in PP), and an instruction sheet at both the 7th and 4th Grade level.
