Take your study of the Westward Expansion a step further by having your students create newspapers summarizing their understanding of the Westward Expansion. I have found that writing is less intimidating for students when it is broken into smaller chunks and it “looks” different. Thus, the idea for Social Studies topic based “newspapers” where students are given the role of reporter about the subject being taught. The standards and essential questions are a part of each newspaper so that students know exactly what information to include. There is a portion for a descriptive picture and a short caption for each essential question. These are excellent for review! If you like these, check out my other Westward Expansion products!
