Description

This activity makes learning to answer wh- questions FUN! My students with disabilities, and many typical students as well, struggle to answer wh- questions. That's a really big deal because it's crucial that they be able to do so in order to be successful in school. This packet is ideal for teaching just that in speech and language therapy or in the classroom. Be sure to download the preview for a closer look!

This download includes:

5 small visuals that will help YOU teach your students how to answer each type of wh- question and serve as a visual reference for them as well (much like an anchor chart).

86 wh- question cards that can be used to play a card game (which makes learning and practicing this tough skill fun and engaging for your students). If you choose not to use them as a game, you can use the question cards for drill.

• 18 what questions

• 9 who questions

• 9 when questions

• 9 how questions

• 18 where questions

• 23 why questions

► 4 wild cards to shake up the game

To prep:

►Prep couldn't be easier. Just print and cut all cards. I prefer printing on card stock for longevity.

► Laminate for durability if you choose.

To use:

► Use all of the question card or choose the specific type of questions you would like to target (depending on your students' needs). You can even assign each of your students different types of questions.

► Use the visuals to build your students' knowledge of how to answer each type of question and discuss the examples given. Let your students refer to these while learning.

► Put all of your chosen winter question cards facedown on the table or in a stack. Each student should take turns flipping over a card and reading the question (or the therapist can read it). Students get to keep the card if they can answer the question correctly (or correctly in a complete sentence if you prefer). The student with the most cards WINS! Watch out for those wild cards!
