High-interest paragraphs about 25 countries that cover geography, economics, history and current issues. One country per page, with 2-3 questions per passage and illustrations. No-prep for bell work, enrichment, centers, homework, extra credit, early finishers, sub plan and more. Use to supplement your curriculum in World History; as part of a geography unit; for a study of current issues; or in an ELA class for informational text.

The countries featured are those that students may not be familiar with in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and Europe. Helps expand your students' background knowledge as global citizens. For example, one concept covered is why some nations are so poor.

The questions with each entry cover Common Core Standards for SS/History, focusing on analysis, main ideas, fact/opinion, and visual information. 94 social studies vocabulary terms are within the text, such as latitude, civil war, infant mortality rate, and per capita gross domestic product. Worksheets for matching vocabulary/definitions and countries/continents are also in the packet, along with Answer Keys for the questions and worksheets.

Detailed teaching tips give suggestions for different uses and implementation, such as note taking practice, map work, individual writing, and/or discussion. Each passage could be used for a few minutes for several days for different purposes and skills.
