This upper grade unit is meant to go with Kobi Yamada’s “What Do You Do With A Chance?”
I plan on using this during the first week of school. It's a great book that teaches awesome life lessons, and this resource reviews literature/reading skills (see below).
This unit does not explicitly teach reading skills, but does include helpful directions, tips, guidelines, graphic organizers, and criteria checklists. Each skill is practiced on one page, and functions as a worksheet.
The worksheets may be completed whole group, independently, or in centers. Feel free to pick and choose specific skills that work for your students!
- Pre-reading questions
- Comprehension questions
- Quote analysis
- Growth mindset
- Character traits
- Text-dependent questioning using R.A.C.E. to respond
- Main idea & key details
- Text connections (text to text, text to self, text to world)
