Engage students with this hands-on science activity that includes measurement, poetry, and literacy skills! Students are introduced to the scientific method as they grow a kidney bean in a bag. They make a prediction about whether the seed will need sunlight to start sprouting, then test their hypothesis. Centimeter paper is provided to measure seed's roots and stem. Using a "seed journal", students can track their seed's progress weekly. They draw and label their plant, describe their plant, and reflect on the results of their experiment. As a culminating activity, students can create a cinquain poem about their seed/plant. A support sheet is provided with ideas for the poem. There are three paper options for publishing the poem.
