This is a great GRAPH skills-booster that can be done ANYTIME of year, used whole-group, as a station, in partners-- or however you choose! The students are given seven(7) sets of DATA and must determine what type of Graph will show each set of DATA BEST! Should they use a Bar Graph? (as the DATA is comparing different Sets of unchanging numbers?) Or should they use a Line Graph? (as there is a value that changes-- or several values that change(Multiline)?) Or would it go best in a Pie Chart? (if the Data shows parts of a whole?) These little student helpers are given in the Header of the DataLAB, as are quick instructions on determining Dependent and Independent Variables, using Dry MIx to graph the variables, and EVEN-- hints on numbering the axes! They can REFERENCE these HINTS on this DataLAB all year in their Journals/Notebook when faced with a SET of DATA to Graph!
To make it even more efficient for you and the students, I have included two(2) sets of preformatted graphs, four(4) to a page, one with Dry MIx already on it, and one without. I have also included a page of circle graphs-- otherwise known as Pie Charts- four(4) to the page. I know this will help you ROCK the Science in your CLASSROOM! I will be adding it to my SI UNITs with Dimensional Analysis, Variables and Graphs complete Unit, too, ASAP. I also included a Key for each graph-- great to project/display for self-checking. I included my Grading Rubric and some HINTs on how I have achieved a NO Papers and NO FAILURES Classroom:) and still keep it super-rigorous and my students' test scores fantastic.
Just for fun, and to show you some of the cool things I've designed for my complete Units, I included some FREEBIES from my complete SI Units UNIT. The extras include my Plans, GOALS4Wk, my SI Units GraphiQ EXPLAIN Multimedia Presentation plus its student FRAME, plus my Greatest of all Time Textbook GraphiQ MAP Assignment, and some pockets for the various Cards and Sorts which you'll find included in ALL my complete Units! I also ALWAYS include at least 2, but usually 3 or 4 --ActionLABs in which students can DO Science and have authentic experiences with the concepts and vocabulary terms. Hopefully, you'll see the time and care that I put into my Products, and especially my complete Units, and trust me to plan your Units in the future. That way you can sit back and chill for at least that UNIT!
