This booklet is a great way for students to reflect on their learning in each subject throughout the day. Included is a cover sheet and a reflection page that includes a box for each subject area (reading, math, science, social studies, and specials). Along with each subject is a smiley face rubric where students can assess their understanding of each topic of the day. I have students fill out the booklet at the end of each class to review what topic we learned. They can write the standard, the topic, or just put in their own words what they learned in each subject. They then assess themselves with a sad, medium, or smiley face. This way they can be aware from day to day how they are progressing in their understanding.
I print this back to back with the cover, so there are 5 days. Cut the pages in half and staple, so each student gets a half-page sized booklet. I send this home on Friday and have their parents sign it. This is a great way to inform parents of what is being learned each week. It's a great alternative to the "nothing" response students often give to "What did you do at school today?" I find this to be a great way to provide closure to lessons, have students reflect on what they learned and self-assess their understanding every day.
I hope you find this booklet useful in your classroom!
