This is one of my favorite assignments. It's based on the 1958 movie, "Attack of the 50 Foot Woman." Students use measuring tapes and their knowledge of scale factor to determine what their measurements would be if they suddenly grew to be 50 feet tall. Students really get into it and the class often goes beyond the assignment to apply the scale factor to other objects in the room. It falls on our second day of studying scale factor during our Ratios and Proportional Reasoning Unit. See Scale Factor Lesson Plan - Day 2 to see exactly how this day runs in my classroom.
***To complete this activity you will need measuring tapes or yardsticks. I just went to the dollar store and bought 12 measuring tapes (enough for a class of 24), which I've used in multiple ways throughout the years. Well worth the 12 bucks!
