PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

I use this activity for modeling many skills related to foundational writing skills (conventions, spelling, etc.) and narrative writing (transition words, opening and closing sentences, etc.).

This is a great resource for students to use around Thanksgiving to brainstorm what they are thankful for and expand upon why they are thankful for these things.

Two templates are provided within this file.
1) A structured rough draft (graphic organizer) is provided for students to brainstorm and pre-write. The rough draft includes a checklist for basic conventions and expectations in grades 1 and 2.
2) A final draft paper is also provided. My students copy over their writing (after conferencing with me) onto the final draft, which has a cute autumn border. I usually hang up their finished drafts in November and they are a big hit!

This writing activity hits the following common core state standards:

GRADE 1:
-CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.1.3: Write narratives in which they recount two or more appropriately sequenced events, include some details regarding what happened, use temporal words to signal event order, and provide some sense of closure.
-CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.SL.1.4: Describe people, places, things, and events with relevant details, expressing ideas and feelings clearly.
-CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.SL.1.6: Produce complete sentences when appropriate to task and situation.

-CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.SL.2.6: Produce complete sentences when appropriate to task and situation in order to provide requested detail or clarification.
-CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.L.2.1: Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English grammar and usage when writing or speaking.
