INTEGRATE STEM IN YOUR CLASSROOM WITH THIS GEOLOGICAL LESSON!
This is a perfect STEM set to study the layers of soil or as an add-on for a geology unit. It can be modified for students in grades 1st- 5th grades.
Students will get beneath the soil as they investigate what makes up the layers of soil in this STEM activity! In this challenge students will investigate soil profiles, take on the role of an archaeologists as they analyze artifacts and develop a timeline of when they occurred in history based on where the artifact is found in the soil layer, and look at ways to excavate a dig site.
Students will develop critical thinking and engineering skills as they work through the challenge. They will use the engineer design process the brainstorm, plan, create, test and improve! Opportunities for reflection are incorporated into the activity.
