For any number 1-9, primary age students need to be able to find the number that makes 10 when added to the given number.
This activity allows the student time to build this understanding. The students will use what they know about ten and the parts of ten to do this activity.
To play, students draw a number card. They will say that number and the number needed to make 10. For example, if they draw an 8, they'd say, "8+2=10". If correct, they spin the spinner and move along the game trail. The first player to reach the pot of gold is the winner.
Included in this activity are the gameboard, 32 number cards, directions and 2 spinners. Students use a pencil and paperclip for the spinner.
Additionally, the objective of the game could be to add 10 to the number on the card (ten and some more CCS 1INT.B.2.B) or the students could subtract the number on the card from ten. I love activities that have multiple standards that could be addressed!!
