This short exploration first requires students to predict whether a function will be linear or nonlinear. Then, they use Desmos to graph each one and sketch the graph. They will determine if their prediction was correct. After completing several examples, they will record the functions that were linear in one group and nonlinear in another group, and then try to determine what characteristics of a function make it linear or nonlinear. This assignment can be completed in 30-45 minutes.
