Students will discover what melts in the sun in this simple experiment in which items are placed on a muffin tin or cookie sheet and placed in the sun. Students will record their predictions and results on recording sheets and discuss their findings. Students will design and build a model of a structure that will reduce the warming effect of sunlight on an area. A recording sheet for students to draw their structure and tell about it is included.
This meets Next Generation Science standards K-PS1-1 and KPS3-1 and K-PS3-2
There are recording sheets for either 9 or 12 items depending on the availability of items you can find in your classroom or to differentiate this activity to best meet the needs of your students.
