In past years, when teaching my 6th graders how to respond to questions requiring textual evidence, I began by showing my students the correct way to use and write evidence found in the text.
This year, I decided to begin my writing lessons with a lesson on what not to include when responding to various writing prompts. My students copied the information into their notebooks and use it as a checklist of what not to do.
This powerpoint can be edited to fit your needs. You can print it or have students copy the information into their notebooks.
