This is a set of 32 task cards that helps students practice what operation should be used while solving word problems. Each task card requires students read a word problem and determine which operation should be used to solve it. These work great for helping students build mathematical sense in problem solving. A great extension activity would be for them to actually solve the problem, even thought that is not the purpose of the cards. I used these with my second graders before they actually learned the multiplication or division algorithm in third grade. I wanted to make sure they had the basic understanding of what those operations were, before they were drilled on the algorithm. These cards worked wonders with building their understanding of all four operations.
This purchase includes an answer card and recording log with two per page so they can be cut in half (Save the trees)!
