Although students often understand the parts of the plant and their functions, this activity takes that concept one step farther. By completing this activity, students will learn about the different foods that they eat and which part of the plant those foods actually are! This can be completed individually or as a small group depending on the needs of your classroom.
As an extension:
1. Once this activity is complete, have the students plan a meal using at least one food from each category! They can draw and label their meals for their classmates to view!
2. Have students vote on which part of the plant they enjoy eating the most. Have them choose their “part” and write a short statement about why it is their favorite. Next, graph all of their responses to show which parts of the plant they enjoy the most.
