This is a set of 24 clue cards for combinations of polygons. Students consider the numbers of sides for polygons and make combinations for targeted numbers.
I have 3 shapes in my bag. Together they have a total of 16 sides. What shapes could be in my bag?
Display Polygon Names poster for students and discuss the names and shapes they are already familiar with. Show pictures for those they may not have seen. Cards are included for the discussion. Tell students to imagine that you have a bag of shapes and you will be reading clues for them to determine what shapes might be in the bag. Read one clue card at a time. Students determine combinations of shapes that meet the given criteria. Have students explain their answer by stating the names of the shapes, number of sides, and an equation.
Although the context of this activity is geometric shapes, the focus standards are addition.
